Let McCain Say He Isn’t More of the Same
Proof to the contrary borders the insurmountable:
from the serious to the ridiculous
Okay, okay, I’m not working off that blowhard Bill Kristol’s suggestion here. Nor am I giving too much credence to Zbigniew Brzezinski’s rumor.
But it dawned on me, perhaps because of these mutterings, that Colin Powell may very well be Barack Obama’s running mate. He’d solidify the foreign-policy end of the ticket, bring years of military and diplomatic work, carry some sway for old-school Republicans, and add an element of general age to balance Obama’s youth.
I’ve mentioned Powell before, though dismissively. But something about this is really sticking now.
Thoughts?
Wow, I’m a fucking idiot, but I honestly haven’t thought about the prospect of Colin Powell as vice president, for either candidate.
If McCain snatches him up (unlikely, as Powell has signaled stronger support for Obama), the election may be over. If Obama taps him, however, it might not be to his benefit. Sadly, a ticket with two black men, however lightly skinned, could sink like lead. I have a cynical feeling they’d do a lot worse than Obama would on his own.
If somehow we were to avoid such a repuational shit-stain, I would really, really like the idea.
