Who would’ve guessed?

Seriously, that such a wonkish executive would be brought down (possibly) not by miscalculations with a legislative body, but by scandals in his personal life?

Again, I don’t care that Gavin Newsom had sex with someone else’s wife (though next time, Mr. Mayor, try someone who’s not a spouse of your good friend).

And today’s story I don’t care too much about either. I admire Newsom’s honesty (I know, I know, a loaded word when used in reference to politicians) and intent to seek help. He was forthcoming about the sexual affair, and with both stories, says he wants to get back to work.

For me, the issue is: Do any of these escapades interfere with his ability to do the job he was elected to do? With alcoholism, it’s hard to tell. Chances are good that it has, in which case his seeking rehabilitation is really all we can ask.

District One Supervisor Jake “Don’t call me Gingrich” McGoldrick today called for Newsom to resign. Now that’s pathetic.
