Make it 6 Percent, Please

Flipping through old Here and There posts, I came across this one, in which I touted a map that illustrates U.S. states you’ve visited.

I went to the site that generates the graphic tonight, and found that they also offer the same service for countries you’ve been to.

As I approach another international trip (to Venezuela next week), I thought it might be nice to see what miniscule portion of the world I’ve been to.

Here it (pathetically) is:

(check back in a few weeks to watch this map get another drop of ketchup on it)

  1. Thanks for the link, Jeff, that was fun. My world travel total is a piddly 4% - and yet I feel as though I’ve been ridiculously privileged to have already been to all of the countries I’ve visited. It’s also interesting to see how the visited U.S. states (30 for me) tend to pool around the parts of the country where I’ve lived (Cali, Midwest, New England), and the cross-country routes that connect them.

  2. A “flyover states” map might be fun, too.

The states map reminds me of seeing Winnebagos that had entire U.S. maps on the back, and, if they were the diligent travelers their vehicles deserved, many state stickers filling the map in. All the states were different colors, giving them a distinct visual advantage over our lousy digital version.
